Analcore … wtf?

I was listening to some new music today — different types of metal that I would mostly call “Death Metal”.  Those in the know would, however, class these different bands into different Death Metal categories — Finish Death Metal, Norwegian Death Metal, Swedish Schizo Dwarf Fantasy Death Metal, etc.  You get the point?  Anyway, one of these bands was labeled “Analcore”.  WTF?  What is Analcore?  Songs about the anus?  Songs that are crappy?  I don’t know.  But suddenly I feel old.

I, Robot

Man, Neal Stephenson is hard to read sometimes.  Once I got past the first 100 or so pages of “Anathem” it became easier to process; after all, he did sort of invent a new language for the book.  However, “Quicksilver” is even harder.  I had to take a break and I’m re-reading one the classics — “I, Robot” by Isaac Asimov.  It’s a great book, always has been and always will be.  I think it’s one of the first books I ever read, when I was 6 or so.

By the way, for those of you who have never read “I, Robot”, I have to tell you that it was written in 1950 and it is written as SF of that time.  Also, it is nothing like that atrocity of a movie with Will Smith as the main actor.

I’m currently reading Neal Stephenson’s “Quicksilver”.  For Christmas and my birthday I received all three books in the “Baroque Cycle”.  So far I’m only about a hundred or so pages in, and it’s pretty good.  I find that I need to draw  back a couple of pages every time I pick it up though, just to jog the brain a bit.  I don’t know if this is because Stephenson’s writing is a bit hard read in this book or because I usually go several days between reads.  Probably a bit of both.

Animal House

I just finished watching the movie “Animal House“.  It has to be one of the best movies ever made.

I’ve been experimenting with updates to the webserver.  Well, not really updates so much as adding functionality, like this blogging software.

We’ll see how it goes over.  If I could figure out how to change the font, I’d be happy.
